The Acropolis of Athens

Since its construction during the Golden ages of Athens, the Acropolis of Athens has stayed sturdy through the test of time and till this day, has been declared one of the Modern (as well as ancient) wonders of the world. The Acropolis, as is it fondly known, is situated in Athens, Greece on top of what is known as the Sacred Rock of Athens. The citizens of Athens see it as a symbol of power and protections. A graphic illustration of the Acropolis is used as part of the UNESCO logo to represent culture and education and it is also classified as a World Heritage Site.

Just because it is on top of a rock doesn’t mean it’s inaccessible. The road up to Acropolis is easy because tourists can use one of the large avenues that border the south and west of the site which has been turned into pedestrian streets with restaurant and cafes. The easiest way to go to the Acropolis is to follow the larget pedestrian street called the Dioysiou Aeropagitou, until you get to the marble steps that lead up the hill.

Since many tourists visit the Acropolis, finding a hotel nearby isn’t difficult either. Some of the hotels that are near the surrounding area of the Acropolis are the ACROPOLIS SELECT Hotel situated in Falirou Street, ACROPOLIS VIEW Hotel on Rovert. Galli Street, the ATHENIAN CALLIRHOE Hotel set in Kallirois, DIVANI PALACE ACROPOLIS Hotel at Parthenonos, HERA Hotel also located on Falirou Street, HERODION Hotel and the ROYAL OLYMPIC Hotel on Diakou Street. The nearest airport is called the Eleftherios Venizelos.

The saying goes-when in Greece, do as Greeks do. Indulge in the local cuisine in restaurants like Daphne, Neon Syntagma and Vlassis that serve tempting Greek cuisine from pastries, Greek sweets and salads. Tourists should try out the Center of Hellenic Tradition which houses quality local crafts, ceramics and old paintings before heading back home.
