Singapore, an island-city state off the very southern tip of Malaysia is one of the richest states in Asia and one of the Four Asian Tigers (the other three are Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong). The city is best known as a shopping Mecca and the Orchard Road shopping district is by far the most popular and visited part of the city. However, Singapore offers much more than just great shopping opportunities and is attracting millions of tourists each year. In 2007 alone, over 10 million of tourists have visited the city which is next to Monaco and Vatican City the only sovereign city-state in the world.
In addition to being a great place for shopping, Singapore is famous for its unique cuisine which is an excellent blend of Chinese, Indian and Malay cuisines as well as several top tourist attractions such as the Night Safari – the first wildlife night park in the world, Underwater World oceanarium, Jurong Bird Park, Tiger Sky Tower at Sentosa island, Fort Siloso and numerous museums worth visiting. The city is also renowned for its nightlife which is according to some authors among the top ten in the world, especially Boat Quay and Clark Quay where are a number of bars, pubs, restaurants and discotheques.
